Lycee Francais de New York

Ever dreamt of having a play date with Linda Evangelista? Well then get your kids in the LFNY, the Lycee Francais de New York and they might become BFF with her three year old Augustin-James. (The many celebrity pupils, that the LFNY has been made famous for, also include Maddox Jolie-Pitt and Madge kids.) No need to be French, love stinky cheese or even speak the language, the board has a 25% quota for American families. And the idea of having little French speakers at home seems apparently very glamorous to many Manhattanites, since the ratio of applicants to students is somewhere near 80 to 1.

The curriculum anchors French academic rigor and language to American educational values, which promotes creativity and pragmatism. With over 50 nationalities represented, the LFNY motto is to be an open window on the world. Culminating in the French Baccalaureate, the Lycee strong bicultural and bilingual program allows many graduates to attend the most prestigious universities in the States, Canada and Europe.

Dressed to impress knowing that the whole LVMH crew sends their kids there, I have taken a tour of the school since my little one will attend their Pre-K or Moyenne section de maternelle in September. As we navigated ourselves from the elementary part of the building to the high school section, I became a little resentful that my parents sent me to private school in Paris and not in New York. The airy building located between 75th and York and going all the way to 76th is vastly different than the school I attend back in Paris. The state of the art gymnasium is nothing short of amazing and a good thing since I am planning to turn into a soccer mom in September since Yannick Noah himself will be coaching my little 4-year-old’s soccer team. The music professor is a Julliard graduate with three albums under his belt. Not to mention the three Michelin star cafeteria that will get your kids hooked up with the finest food from a young age.
