Parents with elementary school children looking for a kid-friendly neighborhood should consider the Upper East Side for its fantastic public schools.
One such school is The Lillie Devereaux Blake School, which is located at 45 East 81st Street on the Upper East Side. Founded in 1894 and named after the feminist author and reformer Lillie Devereaux Blake, P.S. 6 is a public elementary school and considered to be one of the top schools in New York City. It is famous for its demanding reading and writing programs and the Teachers College of Columbia University has appointed P.S. 6 as a mentor school.
P.S. 6 Lillie D Blake School received 9 out of 10 stars from GreatSchools.net and 5 out of 5 starts from parents for ‘Teacher Quality.’ Plus, its After School Workshop also provides extensive after school activities reaching from arts, science activities to sports and chess programs.
